Christian or Not?

Jehovah’s Witness

-Reports approximantely 18 million practicing at some level around the world.
-Directed by the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses, a group of elders established in Brooklyn
-Hold the belief that there is a need for a cleansed form of Christianity and the religion must be reformed using the early church as a model, known as Christian primitivism
-Millenarian, meaning that they believe that there will be a “Golden Age” wherein Christ will rule on earth for 1000 years, as compared to most contemporary Christian groups that do not believe that Christ will rule on earth.

Mormons

-Founded by Joseph Smith Jr. in the 1820s as a form of Christian primitivism
-Adds a section of the Bible known to them as the “Book of Mormon” to the Bible (one of the most common reasons it is accused of not being Christian)
-Used to support polygamy, but real Mormons NO LONGER do
-Believe that Christ appeared in the Western Hemisphere in the 1800s
VERY INTERESTING: Many Mormon leaders believe that the Aztec God Quetzalcoatl was Jesus Christ!

“The story of the life of the Mexican divinity, Quetzalcoatl, closely resembles that of the Savior; so closely, indeed, that we can come to no other conclusion than that Quetzalcoatl and Christ are the same being. But the history of the former has been handed down to us through an impure Lamanitish source. “- Latter-Day Saint President John Taylor
